Ernest J. “Ernie” Bilodeau, Jr.

Ernest J. “Ernie” Bilodeau, Jr., of Waltham, died Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at his home. He was 85.

Born in Waltham on June 29, 1941, he was the son of the late Ernest J. Bilodeau, Sr., and Elizabeth (Ferguson) Bilodeau. Raised and educated in Waltham, he was a graduate of Waltham High School. He then graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and enjoyed a long and successful career in technology, spending more than thirty years at Honeywell as a database programmer.

Though he enjoyed his career, his life’s focus was his faith and his family. He was the loving husband of the late Janet P. (Fortin) Bilodeau, with whom he shared more than fifty years of marriage, family, faith, and summer memories at Lake Waukewan in Meredith, New Hampshire.

Ernie was a great father, and he was led by his faith, praying the rosary every day, and he never took off his Miraculous Medal. With Janet and their son Joey he was a faithful communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Waltham, where Sunday Mass and Fr. Michael’s blessing at the door were a weekly comfort. He played the piano and gladly volunteered his music wherever it was needed. In recent months he took up birdwatching and found real joy watching the birds in his backyard. He had a million jokes and loved to share his sense of humor.

His grandchildren meant the world to him, and he took great pride in each of them. He especially loved spending time with his family in New Hampshire at Lake Waukewan.

He was the loving husband of the late Janet P. (Fortin) Bilodeau; father of the late Joseph P. Bilodeau and brother of the late David L. Bilodeau and the late Pauline Broderick.

He leaves his children, Anne C. Zieger and her husband Darren of Virginia; John E. Bilodeau of Groton; Michael J. Bilodeau of Boca Raton, Florida; and Susan P. Bilodeau of Alexandria, Virginia; his former daughters-in-law, Sherri Bilodeau and Eva Bilodeau; and his ten grandchildren, Morgan, Julia and Michael; Tyler and Ella; Evan, Ryan and Emily; and Benny and Dorian. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Ernie’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Wednesday, September 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 AM on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
