Elizabeth Giok Lian Nio Tan, 85, of Norwood, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving children.
Born in Kediri, Indonesia, Elizabeth immigrated to the United States in 1980 in pursuit of a better life for her family. She held a Master’s Degree in Economics and dedicated her career to mission-driven work, including serving as a financial analyst at the Slone Epidemiology Center at Boston University from 1997 until her retirement in 2012.
Fiercely independent and remarkably resilient, Elizabeth expressed her love through cooking, especially for her children and grandchildren—nourishing both body and soul. She lived on her own until her final months and remained steadfastly devoted to her family throughout her life.
Elizabeth is the beloved mother of Christina (Brian), James (Claudia), and Sean (Angela) Wee; the treasured “Nana” of Amanda, Ethan, Sabrina (Flavien), Sami, and Olivia; and the proud great-grandmother of Valentina. She is also survived by her four sisters—Nadya, Elly, Jeanne, and Rita—and a large extended family across the United States and Indonesia.
Family and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025 at Saint Patrick’s Church, 212 Main Street, Watertown.
