Waltham - Mrs. Elaine M. (Secord) Quaranto, died Wednesday, April 29, 2026 in Massachusetts General Hospital after an illness. She was 79.
Elaine M. Secord was born February 28, 1947 in Newton a daughter of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Lupo) Secord. Raised in Newton, she was a graduate of Newton North High School with the class of 1964. She married Peter A. Quaranto on May 8, 1966, in Our Lady Help of Christians Church and lived in Waltham over 63 years.
She began her career as a clerk at CVS on Lexington Street and rose through the ranks to become assistant manager, earning the respect and affection of coworkers and customers alike. Known for her warm smile and steady presence behind the counter, Elaine made every day errands feel a little more like coming home. After three decades of dedicated service, she enjoyed her retirement.
Elaine treasured her role as a mother, but even more so being Nana to her five grandchildren. She delighted in spoiling them as only a grandmother can — and at Christmas, when every gift came with an extra sprinkle of magic, everyone called her ‘Nana Clause.’ Her kitchen was the center of family life: a fantastic cook who held fast to her Italian heritage, she served up wonderfully nourishing food.
Each summer, Elaine looked forward to the family’s annual trip to Old Orchard Beach in Maine, a place she loved and where she made countless happy memories.
In addition to her beloved husband of 57 years, Peter (May 22, 2023) she was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Secord.
She leaves her children, Michael A. Quaranto (Corrie) of North Bellmore, New York and Lori Flores (Luis) of Waltham; her grandchildren, Gianna Donnelly (Andrew), Luis and Alex Flores and Mia and Brynn Quaranto; her sister, Barbara Chester (Thomas) of Phoenix, Arizona; her sister-in-law, Debby Secord of Sutton (late Ralph Secord); also survived by nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Elaine’s life at an Evening Wake at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Tuesday, May 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral service will be held there on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105
