Miss Eileen Herlihy, of Waltham, died Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She was 75.
Eileen was born in Waltham on May 28, 1950, a daughter of the late Dennis and Barbara (Barry) Herlihy, and was a lifelong resident.
Following her 1968 graduation from Waltham High School, Eileen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Boston University and later her Master’s degree in the same subject at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell.
Until her retirement Eileen was the city-wide Mathematics Curriculum Director for the Waltham Public Schools and before that taught math at various schools in the city. She was a longtime member of the National Council of Mathematics Teachers.
She and her sister, Martha, were avid travelers throughout the country and around the world. They took several memorable cruises that stretched from Greece through the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic and voyages that brought them to Australia and to islands and countries throughout the Pacific.
She was always active and maintained a large group of friends including some from her high school and teaching days. She enjoyed going to the theatre and eating out.
She came from a large extended family of Barry and Herlihy cousins who have remained close from their youth to the present day.
She leaves her sister, Martha Herlihy, of Waltham and the large contingent of cousins she so loved.
Family and friends will honor and remember Eileen’s life by gathering for a Morning Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, October 8th from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by her Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
