Dorothy M. (McDade) Curtin

Mrs. Dorothy M. (McDade) Curtin, of Harwich Port, formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, November 23, 2023 at her home.  She was 89.

Dot was born on March 29, 1934, a daughter of the late Irish natives Denis and Catherine (Cooney) McDade. Raised in Watertown she was a graduate of Saint Patrick’s High School continued her studies at Regis College where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She married Gerald M. Curtin in her home parish Saint Patrick’s and the pair made Waltham their home. For the later years of her life Dot had been a resident of Harwich Port.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family. She also maintained many cherished friend groups over the years including the Saint Patrick's High School Group, the Club Group, and had been a longtime member of Weston Golf Club. Dot and Gerry were faithful communicants of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church on Trapelo Road and of Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham. When not with family or catching up with friends, Dot was an avid reader and enjoyed musicals and playing canasta. 

She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald M. Curtin and the sister of the late Edward, Gerald, Paul, and David McDade.

She leaves her children, Richard J. Curtin (Diana) of Harvard, Nancy J. Avery (Mark) of Weston, Christopher P. Curtin (Deirdre) of Waltham, Patricia A. Ward (Mark) of Orleans, and Gerald M. Curtin, Jr. (Denise) of North Easton. Dot was also the cherished “Nanny” of Tessa, Celia, Katherine, Ali, Casey, Haley, Brendan, Rohan, CJ, Matthew, Mark, Madlyn, Connor, Sean and Kira; sister of Patricia Bontempo of Annapolis, Maryland and Joanne Lowre of Chatham and leaves many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dorothy’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, November 29th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
