Dorothy M. (Meany) Barth

Dorothy M. (Meany) Barth, of Waltham, died Monday, September 14, 2026, at Saint Elizabeth's Hospital/Boston Medical Center in Brighton. She was 88.

Dot was born in Brighton on May 7, 1938, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (Almond) Meany. Raised in Waltham she was a graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Waltham and after that earned her nursing degree from Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing.

Following her December 30, 1961 marriage to New Bedford native David R. Barth in Saint Mary’s Church, the couple remained lifelong Waltham residents.

Dot embarked on a forty-year nursing career at ‘Saint E’s’ where she worked in the labor, delivery and nursery unit where her smile, her skill and her kindness earned respect, gratitude and admiration from staff, patients and their families.

She was a member and the longtime treasurer of Saint Elizabeth's Alumni Association where she made lifelong friendships that spanned generations.

In addition to her husband, Dave, she leaves her children, Susan Barth McCarthy (Timothy) of Mansfield, David R. Barth, Jr. (Ellen) of Northborough, Maureen E. Archibald (Stephen) of Burlington and Kevin E. Barth of Waltham; her grandchildren, Leigh-Ann Goguen, Kathryn Serpis, Michael and Joseph Bodinski, Rachel Cochran, David R., III. and Thomas Barth, Daniel and Tyler Archibald and Kevin E. Barth, II; her great-grandchildren, Ashton and Jack Serpis and Beckett Bodinski and several nieces, nephews and their families.

Dot was also the grandmother of the late Cameron Archibald and the sister of the late Joseph Meany.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dorothy's life by gathering for an Afternoon Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, September 20th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 8 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
