Donald M. Wiggin

Donald M. Wiggin, of Saco, Maine, died Saturday, September 5, 2026, at his home. He was 71.

Don was born in Waltham on March 29, 1955, a son of the late William F. and Flora E. (Gray) Wiggin and was a 1973 graduate of Waltham High School. Four years later he earned his bachelor’s degree in health services administration at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Until his retirement, Donnie worked for more than thirty years for Creative Work Systems, where he met his wife, Mary. Creative Works is a Maine nonprofit that breaks down barriers and creates opportunities for people with disabilities to pursue their potential, contribute to their communities and be valued with dignity and respect.

Soon after, he kept busy by starting his own company, MOBE Manufacturing (a name he created by combining the first two letters of his children’s names - Molly and Ben), a contract manufacturing and packaging services company in Saco.

Donnie also worked part-time at the LL Bean Call Center, a job he loved because of his co-workers, engaging with the customers and the access it gave him to the LLB employee store. His almost museum-quality collection of company goods attests to his loyalty to the brand.

He also worked as a security agent for the City of Portland as a cruise ship greeter . . . greeting ship passengers and directing them to tourist sites around the Portland area. His role also included working as an usher and greeter at Merrill Auditorium Performing Arts Theater and other city of Portland events, where he became the friendly welcome ambassador for visitors to the city.

Donnie especially loved traveling with Mary, often enjoying the company of Mary's sister and brother-in-law Lynn and Mark and good friends, Teri and David.

He and Mary shared many happy rides on their electric bikes around St. Pete, Florida and treasured relaxed days on the beach with friends in Ocean Park, Maine.

Ski trips with family and friends were another source of great joy, and every summer, he looked forward to a treasured weekend at Lake Winnipesaukee with several lifelong friends.

Donnie loved breakfast—anytime, anywhere—and delighted in knowing all the best spots in Saco, Ocean Park, and throughout the St. Pete area. On most summer mornings, he could be found “holding court” on the patio of the Ocean Park Soda Fountain, warmly carrying on a tradition he had shared with his father and later with his own children and grandchildren.

An avid cyclist, he participated several times in the Trek Across Maine, the annual three-day, 180-mile charity ride.

He will long be remembered as a cherished son and brother, a deeply devoted husband, and a proud and loving father and grandfather.

Wherever Donnie went, he formed lasting friendships and had a gift for making everyone—from childhood friends and colleagues to those he had just met—feel genuinely special.

Though soft-spoken and a man of few words, Donnie brought a warm and memorable presence to every room. Tall and lanky, with tousled white hair, an often-untucked shirt, quick dry wit, and an infectious ear-to-ear grin, he was always wonderfully and unmistakably himself.

In addition to his parents, Donnie was predeceased by his brothers, William F. Wiggin, Jr. and Andrew F. Wiggin.

He leaves his wife, Mary (McNiff) Wiggin; his children, Ben Wiggin and his wife Becca of Framingham; Molly Moroney and her husband Damien, of Brighton; his grandchildren, Theo and Sophia Wiggin and Cillian Moroney; and his sister, Jan Wiggin of Waltham.

Family and friends will honor and remember Donnie's life by gathering for a Morning Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, October 3rd from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 11. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
