David Christopher Mulcahey, 70, of York, Maine, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday April 14, 2026. Born September 28, 1955, in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Swift) Mulcahey.
He was the devoted husband of forty-three years of Kathleen (Bryson) Mulcahey and proud father of Kaitlin Crory (Bill) and Christopher Mulcahey (Anne). He was a loving “Pops” to Emery Mulcahey and Oliver Crory. He is also survived by his sister, Christina Aqualino, and was predeceased by his brothers John and Vincent Mulcahey.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from UMass Boston and held a lifelong love of learning, especially history and biographies, along with an appreciation for fine wines and spirits, always enjoying good drink and good company.
Dave found joy in life’s simple pleasures: appreciating the beautiful craft of a sailboat, birdwatching in his backyard, and Boston sports. He especially enjoyed his signature drink, a glass of Johnnie Walker Black with soda and a twist, and was content spending Sunday mornings with classical music or classic black-and-white films. His presence was steady and warm, calm and reserved, yet filled with quiet joy. He had a sharp wit and a gift for humor, always ready with a perfectly timed one-liner or clever jingle.
David will be remembered for his deep love of family and the steady presence he brought to those who knew him. In a fitting reflection of his life, his final moments were marked by a toast among loved ones before he passed peacefully in his sleep, a reflection of the warmth and togetherness he valued most. As the old Irish parting words remind us, “So fill to me the parting glass, good night and joy be with you all.”
Family and friends will honor and remember Dave’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham, on Friday, April 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial in First Parish Cemetery in York, Maine will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memories of Dave be left on his guestbook at www.JoyceFuneralHome.com
