David J. Dunbar

David James Dunbar, 74, of Waltham, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Born in Chelsea on August 9, 1952, David was the son of the late Francis J. Dunbar and Lois A. (Mallory) Dunbar. He was raised in Dedham, where he graduated from Dedham High School, before eventually settling in Waltham to raise his family.

David spent many years working as a proud Teamster and dedicated union member in the waste management industry, driving trucks for various companies throughout the Boston area.

Known for his vibrant energy and sharp sense of style, David loved to stay active. Whether he was bowling, playing softball, riding his Harley, or hitting the dance floor—disco included—he always looked the part with his well-trained eye for fine clothes and shoes. Above all, David cherished family life. From having a pool table right in the living room to taking childhood trips to Disney, he took immense joy in bringing together the people he loved most.

He is survived by his devoted children, Julie Creagh of Bedford and Michael Dunbar of Acton; his brother, Lee Dunbar; his cherished grandchildren, Danielle, Ryan, Michael Jr., and Joseph; his great-grandson, Anthony; and many loving nieces and nephews.

David was predeceased by his brother, John “Jack” Dunbar of New Hampshire, and his sister, Shannon Boylen.

Family and friends will honor and remember David’s life by gathering for calling hours on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham. Burial will be held privately at Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford.
