Clarence E. Gray

September 12, 1927 — February 16, 2022

Clarence Elwin Gray of Harrison, ME (formerly of Waltham, MA, and Davie, FL) passed away on February 16, 2022, at the age of 94. He was surrounded by his children and the supportive staff at the Country Village Assisted Living in Casco Maine.

Clarence was born on September 12,1927 in Bristol, CT. He was raised in Kemptville, Nova Scotia by his parents, the late Chester and Bertha (Clark) Gray. Clarence was married 68 years to the late Melva Downing Gray of Waltham, MA. The couple worked and raised their family in Waltham. During their retirement Melva and Clarence summered in Harrison Maine and wintered in Davie Florida.

Clarence grew up an avid sportsman. He had a love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing. In his youth, he served as a hunting and fishing guide for visiting sportsmen in the Kemptville, Nova Scotia area.

As a young man, Clarence enlisted in the United States Navy. He was a Gunners Mate Third Class and assigned to the USS Salem 139 out of the Boston Navy Yard. Clarence served during the Korean War from 1948 and was honorably discharge in 1952.

Clarence worked for the Boston Edison Company as a Lineman, Line School Instructor and Supervisor. He retired in 1988 after 35 years of service. In retirement he Managed the Bridgton Highlands Country Club. He was an avid golfer, a past Club Champion, Seniors Club Champion, and placed first in the many scramble tournaments over the years. Clarence was also a past member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Freemasons.

Clarence's life was enriched by his family, along with close relationships in: Nova Scotia, Waltham, Maine, and Florida. He was often described as a gentleman with a warm smile.

Clarence is survived by his three children: Lorna (David) Holmes, Douglas (Deborah) Gray, and Martha (William) Kopaciewicz. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Clarence was also the brother of late Ron Gray of Natick, MA and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

Friends and Family will honor Clarence's life with a Graveside Service Friday April 15th at Mount Feake Cemetery 203 Prospect St, Waltham, MA. The Service will begin at 10 AM.
