Claire A. (Saulnier) Merrifield

Waltham – Claire A. (Saulnier) Merrifield died Monday, May 25, 2026 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 88.

Claire was born on November 16, 1937 in Cambridge a daughter of the late John Saulnier and Helen (Lepeska) Staskunas. Raised in Cambridge she was a graduate from Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School. She worked as an executive assistant at AGFA Corporation for many years.

With a natural social spirit, she found joy in being surrounded by family and friends. Claire delighted in card games, outings to Foxwoods, relaxing at the movies, and any opportunity to share a meal with the people she loved. 

She was predeceased by her son, Edward L. Merrifield, Jr. and siblings, John Sauliner, Jean Seelley, Stephanie Kosta and George Staskunas. 

Claire leaves her children, David L. Merrfield (Kelly) of Waltham, Stephen J. Merrifield of Lowell, Lynne A. Broderick (Michael) of Falmouth and Diane Shamp of Lowell; her grandchildren, Sarah Coakley (Alex), Krista Palermo, Michael Merrifield (Nicole), Mathew Merrifield (Jadine), Andrea Shamp, Joshua Merrifield, Jared Merrifield and Justin Merrifield; her great-grandchildren, Lily, Jake, Teagan, Declan, Colbie and Lainey; her siblings, Arthenise Scola of California, Stanley Staskunas of Arizona, Monica White of Medford and Helen Pinto of Easton; also survived by many beloved nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be private.
