Christine J. Smith

June 5, 1928 — November 24, 2016

Weston – Mrs. Christine June (Kokinakis) Smith, of Weston, died Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 88.

Christine was born on June 5, 1928 in Cambridge, a daughter of the late William and Pauline (Fisher) Kokinakis, and sister of Patricia and William, Jr., both deceased. She was a graduate of Cambridge High & Latin School and later went on to earn an Associate in Arts from Boston University.

Christine married Frank T. Smith, Jr. in 1949. They began their family in Needham, Massachusetts, moving to Weston in 1964. They raised four children.

Kind, generous and thoughtful, Christine was a practical New Englander with a sharp intellect and a wry sense of humor. She had a wide range of interests, including literature and politics, and was a great admirer of President John F. Kennedy. She and Frank were avid bridge players, and Christine in later life became active swimming and playing tennis.

Frank's career involved long stays overseas, and Christine lived with him at various times in the Philippines, Thailand, and Ecuador. The strains of long separations eventually led to their divorce in 1991. She continued to maintain her household in Weston until her death, engaging in outside activities, including community organizations, courses at local colleges, and employment.

Christine leaves her children David M. Smith, now of Dallas; Bryan C. Smith, who resides in San Francisco; Amy C. Smith, now in Manchester-By-The–Sea, MA; and Audrey J. Smith, now living in Devon, England; as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A special memorial page has been set up with the Cure Alzheimer's Fund. Donations may be made in Christine's name for this very worthy cause by accessing the following link:
