Christine M. (Smith) LeBlanc

December 5, 1956 — September 18, 2023

Waltham

Mrs. Christine M. (Smith) LeBlanc, of Waltham, died Monday, September 18, 2023 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.  She was 66.

Christine was born in North Hampton on December 5, 1956, a daughter of Mary C. (Phillips) Smith and the late George Smith. A lifelong Waltham resident, she graduated from Waltham High School and continued her studies at Framingham State College, earning her bachelor's degree in education.

In her younger years she worked at Grover Cronin’s on Moody Street and at IDC Co. in Framingham before she became a schoolteacher in Waltham and Watertown elementary schools. She also established a home day care where she took care of many neighborhood children for years. Christine also taught C.C.D. at Saint Jude Parish on Main Street.

Christine was an accomplished writer and was a two-time published author in poetry. She was an avid reader of historical romance novels and loved completing puzzles, baking (especially her famous whoopie pies) and enjoyed drinking tea. She was known for always lending a listening ear to anyone in need and offering the soundest of advice. She was kind, loving, patient, and strong, and was truly a ‘salt of the earth’ kind of person. Christine was proud of her Irish and Norwegian heritage and always lifted people’s spirits with her wonderful sense of humor and contagious laugh; Christine’s jokes could make anyone smile. She made celebrating birthdays and holidays a top priority and made everyone around her feel so special, and had a special place in her heart for her beloved ‘grand dog,’ Benny.

Of all of the things that kept her busy nothing brightened her world more than her family. She loved her husband, and children more than anything. She will be missed tremendously by anyone who was lucky enough to cross her path.

In addition to her beloved husband, the late Edmond F. LeBlanc, she was predeceased by her father, the late George Smith, and her brothers, the late Peter and William Smith.

She leaves her children, Edmond G. and Erin E. LeBlanc, both of Waltham; her mother, Mary C. Smith of Waltham; her in-laws, Paula Smith and Linda Warren and Loretta Hurney, Bob LeBlanc, and Francis LeBlanc; her niece, Casey Smith, her nephews, Nicholas Hurney, Jason LeBlanc, and Rev. Bobby LeBlanc; and many cousins and cherished friends.

Family and friends will honor and remember Christine’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, September 24th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again on Monday morning when her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.  Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Waltham.
