Charles F. Murphy, of Waltham, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. He was 71.
Charlie was born in Chelsea on August 22, 1953, a son of the late Michael and Kanela (Galatis) Murphy, and was a graduate of Chelsea High School.
Until his retirement he worked as a butcher for the Stop & Shop Company at various locations throughout the Boston area.
Following his May, 1977 marriage to Linda M. Robinson in Saint Anthony’s Church, the pair lived in Allston for a time before moving to Waltham in 1979 where they became lifelong residents.
Charlie was a longtime member of the Lexington Elks and enjoyed gardening around his home, bowling and an occasional shuffleboard game. He adored his five grandchildren . . . and the feeling was mutual. Time spent with them brought him his greatest joy.
In addition to his wife of forty-eight years, Linda, he leaves his children, Brian M. Murphy and his wife, Chrisoula, of Middleton and Laura J. Marchese and her husband, Frank, of Chelmsford; his grandchildren, Christopher, Michael and Peter Murphy and Amelia and Maeve Marchese; his sisters, Christine O’Leary of Revere and Lorraine Pennini of Medford; his sister and brothers-in-law, Margaret "Sissy" Robinson, John "Jackie" Robinson, Danny Robinson, Eddie Robinson and Thomas Robinson and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Charlie was also the brother of the late Thomas Murphy and brother-in-law of the late Steven Robinson.
Family and friends will honor and remember Charlie’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake on Tuesday, July 8th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
In honor and memory of Charlie, memorial donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168 or at https://www.dana-farber.org/.
