Carolyn Jean (Bascom) Bilodeau, of Waltham and previously of Dover, passed away peacefully at age 89 on July 13, 2026. She was the devoted wife of the late Raymond L. Bilodeau for 54 years, mother of Melissa (Michael) and Phil (Tiffany), and grandmother of Sage, Julia, Alexandra, and Drew. She is also survived by her sister Dottie (Bruce) and brother Don (Chantal).
Compassionate. Loving. Generous in every way. Devoted. While those words all applied to Carolyn, they only captured a fraction of her spirit, heart, and kind soul. She saw the beauty in everything – and everyone – and inspired those around her to do the same. It was only fitting that she chose nursing as a career. A graduate of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, Catholic University of America, and Boston University, she also did postgraduate work in group psychotherapy and legal nurse consulting. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Theta at Large, the American Nurses Association, and the Super Sleuths, an international and interdisciplinary group focused on solving cold cases.
Carolyn worked until the age of 88, and was also a lifelong volunteer to both the community and the church, including a twenty-year term as Volunteer Coordinator of the Pastoral Visitors Ministry at Metrowest Medical Center. Faith, family and friends were the pillars of her life, and she shared her immense love throughout. She could laugh at anything, and enjoyed lifelong learning, travel, the Patriots and Red Sox (of course). She will be deeply missed.
Family and friends will honor and remember Carolyn’s life by gathering for visitation on Tuesday, July 21th beginning at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, followed by her Funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. In keeping with Carolyn’s love of life and the beauty around her, attendees are welcome to celebrate her by wearing summer colors.
A private burial will be held at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers and due to her lifelong commitment of caring and compassion, memorials in her name may be made to Rosie’s Place www.rosiesplace.org or Doctors Without Borders www.doctorswithoutborders.org.
