Carol Z. Hansen, of Weston, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at the age of 87 in Miriam Boyd Parlin Residence in Wayland.
Carol was born on February 16, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Harvey and Zoe (Timmons) Hansen. She spent her early years in Omaha before attending Drake University in Iowa, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Science and Education. Carol also pursued further education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Following her formal education, Carol dedicated herself to a fulfilling career as a kindergarten teacher at Plympton and Banks Schools. For an admirable 35 years, she passionately served and educated the children of Waltham until her retirement in 1998. During her tenure, she was granted a sabbatical to study the British method of Kindergarten. Throughout her teaching career, Carol was a proud and committed member of the Waltham Educators Association and the Mass Teachers Association.
Outside of teaching, Carol had many other pursuits that brought joy to her life. She was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church in Waltham and found solace in her faith. Additionally, Carol was a talented professional singer and proudly held membership in the Sigma Alpha Iota fraternity of professional singing women.
In addition to her accomplishments and contributions to education and music, Carol cherished time spent with loved ones. She deeply valued familial bonds and leaves behind many cousins, dear friends, and their families.
In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her siblings, Edward and Jean Mullery.
A Memorial Service honoring Carol's life will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 6 Eddy Street, Waltham.
