Bruce W. Webber

SHREWSBURY - Bruce W. Webber was born January 20, 1936, in Worcester, MA, one of three children, to the late Herbert H. and Ruth M. (Small) Webber. He was raised in Worcester, Northborough, and Shrewsbury, attended Worcester Boys Trade High School and later served active duty with the Air Force reserves. Bruce purchased land then built a house on Brook Street in Shrewsbury where he lived since 1970. It was the place he loved to call home, where he could go down to the back garage any time to work on his cars and where he and his loving wife Pat had great times hosting family and friends for holidays, cookouts, and pig roasts.

Bruce had a lifelong love of cars, owning his first car by the age of 11. He became enamored of racing at a young age as well, first driving then working as a mechanic at Westborough Speedway. Later in life he had the pleasure of sponsoring several races at Thompson Speedway, and drivers, including Tony Stewart and the Wall brothers He even purchased a second home to be close to the Daytona Speedway. He was happiest when driving one of the many antique cars he collected through the years. His favorite was the 1932 three window Ford Coupe, which he first owned in 1951. Whether cruising around with his cherished co-pilot, Pat, or attending one of countless Nascar Races or car shows, Bruce loved the ride.

Owning and operating Independent Truck Service was Bruce’s life’s work for almost 50 years. He was well known to be a skilled, hardworking, honest, and perhaps the grumpiest, diesel truck mechanic around.

Bruce had many treasured friends and knew somebody wherever he went. He was a regular at Dinky’s Blue Belle Diner for many years. It was here where he would meet his buddies, share a coffee and breakfast, talk about the old days and solve the world’s problems.

Bruce passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026 in the comfort of his much-loved home with family at his side and his cars in the garages. He was a strong and resilient man who had lived 90 wonderful years.

In addition to his beloved wife of 31 years, Patricia A. (Malone) Webber, he leaves his children, Mark S. Webber of Worcester, Tracy R. Conte (Gennaro) of Shrewsbury, Cynthia C. Webber of Yorktown, Virginia, and Brian H. Webber of Chicago, Illinois; his step-sons, William R. Greene (Jennifer) of North Brookfield, Michael A. Greene (Stephanie) of Holden, Kenneth J. Greene (Bonnie) of Shrewsbury and Kevin J. Greene (Tracy) of Holden; his grandchildren, Rose-Anne Schmidt (Eric), Rachel Houghton, Steven Houghton (Michelle), Devin Berkiel, Dylan Webber, Cora Webber, Phillip Greene, Brittany Lees (Jonny), Adam Greene (Heidi), Nicholas Greene, Alex Greene (Alexandra), Kevin Greene Jr. (Valerie) and Kelsey Greene; his great-grandchildren, Makeyla, Mia, Grady, Anson, Camille, Marek, Logan, Chase, Grayson, Blake, Gianna, Jayden, Kaylianna, Ethyn, Cameron, Lily, Autumn; his sister, Jeanne Drelinger (late Edward) of Shrewsbury; several nieces and nephew; and countless great friends. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Clayton H. Webber and his grandson, Michael S. Webber.

Family and friends will honor and remember Bruce's life by gathering on Saturday, May 2nd at First Congregational Church, 19 Church Road, Shrewsbury where his funeral service at 12 Noon. The Rev. Holly MillerShank will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. A celebration of Bruce's life will follow at Highfield's Golf + Country Club, 42 Magill Drive, Grafton. There are no calling hours.
