Barbara A. (Morano) Young

February 18, 1934 — April 25, 2024

Shrewsbury, MA

Shrewsbury - From a young age instilled in Barbara Morano were the wonderful gifts of organization, discipline, trust and dependability all peppered in with a good dose of love and genuineness. These attributes ideally suited her throughout her life in both work and home. Like many other Shrewsbury residents, she began working at the former and well-known Spag’s Supply Company. Beginning as a cashier she quickly became a trusted confidant of both Spag and Olive Borgatti and later worked for years as their human resources vice president and manager. She was a well-known respected employee and friend for over thirty-five years.

Barbara A. Morano was born February 18,1934 in Worcester a daughter of the late Italian immigrants Frank and Anna (Police) Morano. Raised in Worcester she was a graduate of Commerce High School. She married Brooklyn, New York native, Robert E. Young in Saint Stephen’s Church in Worcester on October 9, 1954. After 69 years of marriage Bob died on October 19, 2023.

Barbara A. (Morano) Young, died Thursday, April 25, 2024 in Rose Monahan Hospice Residence in Worcester after a brief illness. She was 90 years young.

Life’s simple pleasures and happiness came in the form of family and friends. She loved preparing wonderful food and dishes to be shared at her much-loved home on Oak Street. It’s no secret she loved a winning scratch ticket, a trip to the casino to try her luck at the slots, or an outing to Dunkie’s to gab and reminisce with her friends. Barbara and Bob travelled extensively to places like Italy, Switzerland and loved the warmth and relaxation of Aruba.

Raised in the Catholic faith she was a longtime member of Saint Anne’s Parish and was devoted to praying her rosary numerous times a day. She has now discovered the wonderful mysteries of her faith and has been reunited with all her loved ones. In addition to her beloved husband, Bob, she was predeceased by their son, William ‘Billy’ Young (1963) and all her siblings, Marie DePalo, Victor and Paul Morano, and Antoinette Kweder.

She leaves her sons, Robert E. Young, Jr. (Ruth Duquette) and James Young, all of Shrewsbury; also survived by many nieces & nephews and their families.
