Mr. Arthur R. Cormier, Sr., of Framingham, a former longtime Waltham resident, died Friday, February 20, 2026 in Massachusetts General Hospital after a series of illnesses. He was 82.
Arthur, or Artie as he was called by his wife and many others, was born on October 15, 1943 in Waltham. Raised in Waltham, Artie met Waltham native Sally A. McKenzie when they were teenagers. They dated for nine years before marrying on May 8, 1971 in Our Lady’s Church and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary last spring. Artie and Sally were inseparable and the loves of each other’s lives.
Arthur worked almost twenty years as a security guard for Perkins School for the Blind and previously worked for the City of Waltham for over twenty-eight years, primarily at the municipal garage. While his kids were growing up, he also worked additional part-time jobs to further provide for his family.
Arthur was a devoted husband, father, and "Papa." He valued time with his family, including annual trips to Hampton Beach, which served as one of many foundations for building lifelong memories, first with his children and later with his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of Roy Orbison’s music, loved playing poker, particularly with his son during trips to Foxwoods, Las Vegas and other venues, and enjoyed swimming. Known for his great sense of humor, Arthur was a natural joker and prankster who always had a joke ready to brighten someone's day.
In addition to his wife of over 54 years, Sally, he leaves his children, Arthur R. Cormier, Jr. (Julie-Ann) of Weymouth and Holly E. Soulliard (Ronald) of Framingham; his grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Cormier and Allison and Matthew Soulliard; his siblings, Mary-Anne Bennett (Austin) of Pelham, NH, Lorraine Dowcett (late Frederick) of Waltham, Joan Utley (late Timothy) of Hudson, Patricia Donahue (Richard Fura) of Attleboro, Linda Trainor (James) of Reading, Laura Flaherty (Wayne) of Waltham, Ann Foucher (Robert) of Waltham, and Jerome Cormier (Maria Melaxroinou) of Warwick, RI; his sister-in-law, Joy Clark (John) of Southborough; his brother-in-law, Peter Charbonneau of Royalston; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Florence (Venuti) Cormier; his sisters, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Charbonneau and Margaret ‘Peggy’ Jigarjian (late Charles); and his brother, Michael Cormier.
Family and friends will honor and remember Arthur's life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, February 25th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
In honor of Arthur’s steadfast commitment to caring for his wife Sally, who has been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for over a decade, donations in his honor may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 320 Nevada Street, Suite 201, Newton, MA 02460 or https://www.alz.org/manh
