Mrs. Anne F. (Fitzmaurice) Tierney, of Westwood, a former longtime resident of Weston, died at home on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. She was 94. 

Born on January 4, 1929 in Arlington she was a daughter of the late William and Katharine (Lynch) Fitzmaurice. Raised in Arlington she was a graduate of Arlington High School and then earned her Bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater State College with a degree in education. She married West Roxbury native, William R. ‘Bill’ Tierney on May 28, 1955 in St. Agnes Church.  Anne & Bill were 50-year residents of Weston.  After Bill’s death on February 6, 2012 , she then moved to the Fox Hill Village in Westwood in 2013. 

Anne, an enthusiastic equestrian in her youth, was a 4H leader in Weston for many years.  She was instrumental in the establishment of Chapter 14 of the United Professional Horsemen’s Association (UPHA) and served as its General Secretary for over twenty years.   For several years, she ran the “Symphony of Horses”, a showcase of world-class horses and ponies and their riders accompanied by the Springfield Symphony, held at the Eastern States Exposition Center.  She was Secretary Emeritus of this event.

In her earlier years she was a girl scout troop leader for her daughter’s troop. As her boys were educated, she was a member of the Guild of Saint Irene at Saint Sebastian’s School.

Having met the love of her life, Bill at the Hochflieger ski club in Center Harbor New Hampshire, She and the family were season ticket holders at Cannon Mountain for close to 30 years. She also spent summers on Squam Lake in New Hampshire.

Anne, a lover of the ocean and boating, learned to sail in her youth at the Annisquam Yacht club in Gloucester. Winter sailing trips to Tortola and Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands were annual events for many years.

She and Bill were members of Woodland Country Club.  Anne was a longtime communicant of Saint Julia’s Parish in Weston. 

In addition to her husband of 56 years, Bill, she is predeceased by her daughter, Charlene Anne Tierney and her grandson, Zachary Heger; her brother, Robert Fitzmaurice (late Marilyn). 

She leaves her sons, Dr. John J. ‘Jack’ Tierney D.O. (Margaret) of Westwood and James A. Tierney of West Palm Beach, Florida; her grandchildren, Meghan Marie Tierney, Ryan Austin Tierney (fiancé Indigo Yeager), Charlene Rae Tierney; her sister Charlene Kasper (late William) of Waltham; sister-in-law of Jean Tierney (late Lawrence) of Weston; also survived by nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Anne’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, February 3rd from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Julia’s Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Weston.
