Allen D. Nash

November 17, 1939 — October 25, 2025

Watertown

Allen Darrell Nash, of Watertown, died peacefully at home on Saturday, October 25, 2025. He was 85.

He was born in Leesville, Louisiana on November 17, 1939, a son of the late Napoleon and Ollie Ava (Brown) Nash. Following his graduation from high school, he joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served aboard the USS The Sullivans, a decorated Fletcher class destroyer.

While his ship was docked in Boston, he met the love of his life, Somerville native Barbara J. Winters, and the pair married in 1962. They made Watertown their lifelong home and were longtime members of the Community Church of Watertown where Allen served as a deacon. They enjoyed more than sixty happy years together until Barbara’s death in April 2023.

Until his retirement, Allen worked as a materials handler for the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham. Upon retirement, he started his own handyman business and enjoyed helping people complete small projects.

Allen lived a life grounded in faith, love and simple joys. His hobbies included cooking, gardening and listening to classic country music. His greatest joy, and what he was most proud of, was his family. Allen’s love and devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson were unwavering. There was no place he would rather spend his time than in their company.

Allen leaves his children, Kelli O’Brien (Tony) of Waltham and Kristen Somerville (Peter) of Melbourne, Australia; his grandchildren, Meredith Moseley (Brandon), Connor Nash O’Brien and Benjamin Nash O’Brien; his great-grandson, Teddy Moseley; his siblings, Shirley Laurence Behan, Donnie Laurence and Danny Laurence (Sherry) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents he is reunited in Heaven with his dear baby girl Laura and baby boy Allen, Jr. and his siblings, Nona Nash, Ruby Nash Murray, Ruth Nash Peters, John Densil Nash, Bobby Laurence, Jack Laurence, Kathy Rains and Ronnie Laurence.

Family and friends will honor and remember Allen’s life by gathering for an Evening Wake in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, November 4th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning, November 5th where his Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.

Memorial donations may be made to the Henry F. O’Brien, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, Waltham High School, 554 Lexington Street, Waltham, MA, 02452 Attn: Scholarships; or to a charity of your choice.
