Alice J. (McHugh) Hughes

Mrs. Alice J. (McHugh) Hughes, of Watertown, died on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Waltham Crossings. She was 100.

Alice was born on August 24, 1923 in Watertown one of ten children of the late Irish immigrants John F. and Nora V. (Finn) McHugh. A lifelong resident of Watertown, she was a graduate of Saint Patrick’s High School.

Alice enjoyed membership and friends from the Watertown Women’s Club and the Ladies Sodality at Saint Jude Church where she and her late husband, Joe, were long active.

The wife of the late Joseph E. Hughes, she leaves her children, Maureen E. Hughes of Walpole, Ann Marie Carroll of Worcester, Patricia A. Doucette (Thomas) of Marlborough and Thomas M. Hughes of Framingham; her grandchildren, Kerri, Thomas, Jr., Christina, Lynn, Michael, and Joseph; her great-grandchildren, Alina, Chloe, Lucas, Isabella, Kira, Lucy, Emma and Ryan and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Alice was also the mother of the late Kathleen Hughes and Joseph E. Hughes, Jr. and a sister of the late John, Joseph, Thomas and Paul McHugh, Mary Howley, Catherine Leahy, Margaret McDowell, Helen Perry and Agnes Lavalle and mother-in-law of the late Joseph Carroll.

Family and friends will honor and remember Alice’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, September 29^th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown.
