Aldo DiFonte

January 9, 1931 — June 5, 2024

Waltham

Aldo DiFonte, of Waltham, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at his home. He was 93.

Born in Sulmona, Italy on January 9, 1931, Aldo was the son of the late Anthony and Annunziata (Dicenzo) DiFonte. He was raised and educated in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1952.

Aldo married the love of his life, Ofelia Susi, on October 21, 1951. The couple spent the first three years of marriage living in Boston's North End. They then settled in Watertown, where they raised their family, and have been Waltham residents since 1995. Aldo and Ofelia cherished 72 years of marriage together before her passing this past January.

Aldo worked hard to provide for his family. He was a machinist at Haartz-Mason Manufacturing Company on Pleasant Street in Watertown for many years until his retirement. He loved his family more than anything and he enjoyed any time they could all be together. While the children were young, the family made many happy memories taking trips to the Cape in the summers and later, Aldo and Ofelia enjoyed many excursions together. One trip that held a very special place in his heart was Aldo and Ofelia’s twenty-fifth wedding anniversary trip back to Italy.

Aldo was known for his remarkable gardening skills that seemed almost magical as if he could grow vegetables from cement. When he wasn’t gardening you could find him watching sports…any sport. However, he was a fanatic for his beloved Boston Red Sox.

He leaves his children, Aldo DiFonte, Jr. of Waltham, Joseph DiFonte of Houston, Texas and Stephen DiFonte and his wife Ann of Burlington; his grandchildren, Nicole DiFonte, Dr. Maria DiFonte, Anthony DiFonte, Marisa DiFonte, Joey DiFonte, Stevie DiFonte and Jackson DiFonte; his six brothers and sisters along with many nieces and nephews.

Services for Aldo will be held privately.
