Adelaide M. O'Neil

Adelaide M. (Emery) O’Neil, of Waltham, died Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Maristshill Nursing Home in Waltham. She was 86. Adelaide was born in Portland, Maine on December 1, 1936, the daughter of the late Howard and Alice (Ward) Emery.

She was raised and educated in Bryant Pond and Locke’s Mills, Maine, eventually graduating from Brighton High School in Massachusetts. She earned her Registered Nurse Degree from New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1958.

Adelaide married Dr. Roderick J. O’Neil in St. Julia’s Church in Weston, on November 29, 1958. The pair settled in Sudbury and then Waltham to raise their family and enjoyed 38 loving years together before his passing in 1996.

She leaves her children Roderick J. O’Neil, Jr. (Meredith) of Augusta Maine, Lisa Pedersen (Louis) of Revere, Scott J. O’Neil of Waltham, Sean F. O’Neil (Kathleen) of Whitman, Janet L. O’Neil of Winthrop, and Linda Brassard (Kenneth) also of Winthrop. And she is survived by 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-child and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Roderick, she is predeceased by her brother, Howard Emery, Jr. and twin sister, Alicia Tracy, twin siblings Richard and Lois who died in infancy, and two grandchildren, Carelton and Samuel O’Neil of Rumford, Maine.

Family and friends will honor and remember Adelaide’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, March 23rd from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Julia’s Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
